The reason I ask is because as far as I know on greenmangaming if it is a steam game it says that it requires steam. I see Gothic 3 Gold Edition for example is 75% off on greenmangaming right but it does not say it requires steam.

does anyone know? I would assume that it being a site for steam game sales that they would only want to put games that were for steam but I've went to several links that don't say for steam and they are not on the list of games that you can use keys for on steam forums.
If the game doesn't state that it requires Steam on Green Man Gaming you have to use their Capsule client to download it.
that is what I figured but what I was wondering is why it would be listed on a site for steam sales if it isn't a game redeemable on steam.
is there a way to filter "STEAM GAMES ONLY"? I don't feel like installing another client :P
There are clients check-boxes above the list.

GreenManGaming's capsule acts strangely on my computer.
Yeah, I heard that as well. I hope they implement such a filter soon :)
I understand these sites have steam and non steam games. I just don't understand why the sales for the non steam redeemable games are listed on the site. After all it is called steamgamesales. Having a filter you can click to only show steam redeemable games would work too.

The feature would be really nice, but I'm really uncomfortable with you saying a developer and a community have to limit themselves to the title of their site, as if that title somehow supersedes their interests.

It does.
The title of the site will set an end user's expectations. It would seem, at least a little, morally reprehensible to purposely let down such expectations.

Krychek: I have bought steam games in greenmangaming and getgames, but there is no way to see beforehand if that's possible until you open each game in each site and check. So if it could filter those games with steam retail codes, it would rock :P
Its nearly impossible to make a filter for steam-redeamable games because Shops like GamersGate tagg them as "other drm" or "3rd party drm" also there is no real api or database for them. The Steamsupport page only shows the games which require steam but not if it is optional possible. Also some shops have special keys like Rome: Total War or Medieval: Total War from GMG. Normal retailkeys of these games cannot be activated on steam and the licens on steam is called "Medieval II: Total War Gold - GMG".
If we want a filter we need to make a database where we need to tag every single game for every shop. That is not impossible but hard to do because of new releases nearly everyday and if everyone can tag the games there is no proof that it is realy possible or just a mistake or troll.
a tag would do, as long as we REALLY checked before buying.
Here are lists of games from Green Man Gaming and GamersGate that can be activated on Steam:

I found out that searching for STEAM in gmg will get you most of the steam games, except for a steam train game. Caution is advised, double checking does wonders.
